Position Summary: The BSW Social Work Intern at PCHAS Growing Together Program will experience micro, mezzo and macro social work through the Family Resource Center activities. The Family Resource Center (FRC) offers strength-based, family-focused and goal-driven Christ-centered services to parents with children ages 0-5. These services include basic needs assistance, case management/navigation of community resources, hosting developmental and family-centric activities and parent education classes.


Essential Job Functions

  • To welcome families to the Family Resource Center for basic needs assistance, computer lab usage, and much more.
  • To become oriented to Trauma Informed Care, Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), Circle of Security Parenting (COSP) and see them being taught to families. The intern will be given opportunities to lead families in small (about 10 min) sections of these classes as the intern feels ready.
  • To lead at least 2-3 developmental or social groups of children during the internship (Storytime, Kindermusik, etc.)
  • To help setup for Parent Cafés and experience these support groups for parents. He/She will facilitate a group after she has seen Parent Cafes in action.
  • To help plan and execute Early Childhood Coalition meetings.
  • To assist the FRC in assuring all Spanish messaging is welcoming and understandable to families who speak Spanish.
  • To assist the Family Navigator with families who visit the FRC, especially help with translation to Spanish for families whose primary language is Spanish.
  • To support and participate in the events provided by the FRC.
  • To assist in ideas regarding events offered by the FRC.
  • To learn how the FRC keeps track of documentation and the case record and practice data entry into the CSWIS system.
  • To work cooperatively as a team member of PCHAS.
  • To empower families to advocate and coordinate all available services for themselves.
Requirements:

Performance Standards

  • Be flexible in setting work hours and locations
  • Be able to complete weekly hours and schedule as required for Field Practicum.
  • Complete any case notes or needed documentation within 3 days.
  • Meet weekly with Field Instructor for supervision and provide he/she with a written log from the previous week.
  • Be skilled in organizing time management and work schedules.
  • Be highly motivated to ask questions and advocate for his/her own learning experience.
  • Be skilled and willing to work cooperatively and effectively with church and community groups that are interested what happens at the FRC.
  • Be effective and ethical in evidence based clinical intervention skills and communication with individuals, children, adolescents and adults.

Other Requirements: Must hold a valid driver's license, have and maintain a risk-free driving record. Must be willing to undergo initial and periodic child abuse/neglect, criminal history, sexual offender, and childcare/elder care disqualification list screenings. As requested, must submit fingerprints for review by the state of your employment and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Must undergo a pre-employment drug screen and a pre-employment physical with the results showing no evidence of communicable disease.
