Epsilon System Solutions, Inc. is currently seeking a full-time AC&R Technician III in Norfolk, VA.
Summary: This position will provide both classroom and shipboard practical maintenance training on refrigeration plants, undercounter reefers, freeze and chill box refrigerators, and ice machines on all east coast Aircraft Carriers within the Atlantic Fleet operating area.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide troubleshooting, assessment, electrical/mechanical repairs and testing of U.S. Navy ship AC&R systems (including, but not limited to, refrigeration plants, undercounter reefers, freeze and chill box refrigerators, and ice machines) onboard ships and in the shop. Support personnel shall conduct removal, repairs, overhaul, installation, alignment, troubleshooting, modifying, and testing of ships’ AC&R systems, equipment, and components.
Assist ship’s force in performing necessary adjustments, repairs and testing to components and equipment IAW NAVSEA technical manuals guidance and Preventative Maintenance System (PMS) requirements.
Complete assessment and/or technical assistance and provide repair recommendations to management in a format as required by the customer for review and issuance on the equipment.
Provide assistance, training and technical subject matter expertise in AC&R systems maintenance and repairs to ships’ force military personnel during assist visits.
Utilize manifold gauges, vacuum pumps, recovery equipment, micro gauges, torque wrenches, micrometers, dial indicators and other precision measuring instruments, fixtures, various gauges, and portable machine and hand tools in the removal, repair, overhaul, assembly, installation and testing of equipment components and subassemblies.
Clean, inspect, and perform repairs/overhauls on electrical and mechanical AC&R components and system subassemblies.
Disassemble, clean, inspect and assess parts and components to determine the extent of wear and damage in justification of recommendations to the Government for reuse or disposal.
Identify equipment and component materials and parts requirements.
Protect machined and critical surfaces during removal.
Install Foreign Material Exclusion (FME) coverings on all openings. Identify, tag and inspect piping systems, connections, foundations, fasteners and other parts for reinstallation or replacement.
Follow guidelines and procedures set forth in work procedures.
Troubleshoot and repair AC&R systems, equipment and components.
Operate vehicles in conjunction with job duties.
May operate slow speed vehicles.
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Eight (8) years’ experience in the operation, repair, and maintenance of naval or marine propulsion AC&R systems is highly desired
Experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, wiring diagrams, control schematics or other electrical/mechanical technical data pertaining to the construction and operation of AC&R equipment.
EPA Universal Refrigerant Handlers Certification
Basic knowledge of electrical systems related to refrigeration systems
Demonstrate ability for interpreting ship’s drawings, wiring diagrams and control schematics as required to accomplish assigned tasks
Familiarity with JFMM guidelines and policies
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally
Functional knowledge of MS Office Suite
Possess a valid driver license
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Able to obtain and maintain access to military and government installations and private shipyards
Ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:
An Associate Degree in an appropriate discipline from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to two (2) years of technician experience
Quantified, specialized skills such as trade qualifications, manufacturer certifications of training for shipboard related systems, equipment and components may be substituted for up to two (2) years of technician experience for each major qualification or specialized trade skill
Two (2) years’ experience in a position of team leader or supervisor of subordinate work groups is desired
Previous US Navy or Shipyard experience
ADA Notations:
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes up to 50 lbs
Ability to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces
Ability to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels
May ride ships at sea for extended periods
Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States
