Department Overview
The IONM Technologist prepares patients and conducts routine outpatient and inpatient IONM procedures;Â collects data pertinent to the interpretation of test results and assists medical staff with complex recordings.Â

The IONM Specialist 1 is able to work independently performing their principal duties and responsibilities. The specialist has the ability to monitor basic neurosurgery and orthopedic surgery in which neural structures are at risk, such as aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, brain and spine tumors, and spinal fusions. The technologist demonstrates willingness to learn new skills and advance their intraoperative neuromonitoring and patient care techniques.
Function/Duties of Position Procedures:
- The IONM Technologist performs procedures appropriate to their competence, according to the policy and procedures, including test setup, electrode application, maintaining patient safety and other related duties. Strong, well developed communication skills are essential for this position.
Equipment Maintenance
- Maintains clean testing equipment, maintains proper sanitization of supplies and surrounding area, and reports equipment malfunctions in writing to our engineer.Â
Patient Preparation
- The IONM Technologist documents a comprehensive patient history including neurological symptoms and medications.
Other Duties as Assigned
Required Qualifications - BLS certificationÂ
- Certification in Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM) from ABRET and/or D.ABNMÂ
- Bachelor’s Degree OR Associate’s Degree from accredited Allied Health Neurodiagnostic Education Program (CAAHEP) OR 2 years’ experience as an internal END TechÂ
- Three years of experience in the neurodiagnostic field which includes one year experience in their specialty modality of practice.
Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies):
- Ability to interpret intraoperative EP, EMG, and EEG independently or under indirect supervision. Â
- Familiarity with in-house monitoring equipmentÂ
- Ability to perform basic spine and basic craniotomy casesÂ
- Computer literacyÂ
- Attention to detail, vigilance, poise and composure in stressful situationsÂ
- Ability to troubleshoot common monitoring problemsÂ
- Clear, concise written documentation and interpersonal communication skillsÂ
- Knowledge of current techniques/regulatory standardsÂ
- Promotes a cooperative working relationship with each other, physicians, other disciplines to foster a harmonious work environment
Additional Details HRC, DCH and KPV. Possible exposure to human tissue/fluids with direct patient contact
