Job Summary

Hui Huliau Technology Services is seeking an Esemble Cache Developer to join our team. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining data interfaces and message flows using InterSystems Ensemble and Caché technologies in support of the VA’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) modernization efforts. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in message transformation, interface development, and real-time data exchange in clinical or government healthcare systems. This position requires U.S. citizenship, U.S. residency, and the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain Ensemble productions, including custom Services, Processes, and Operations for handling clinical and operational data flows.
  • Build and enhance message routing logic, domain configurations, schema management, and production-level integrations using InterSystems tools.
  • Develop and maintain data transformation routines using ObjectScript, XSLT, and HL7 parsing tools to support inbound and outbound messages.
  • Monitor Ensemble logs, trace files, and queues to track suspended messages, retry attempts, and processing errors.
  • Configure secure message transmission pipelines and implement custom business rules to support health data validation and routing.
  • Create and load IRIS or SQL tables using Historical Pull methods and work with developers to refine Ensemble interfaces across all environments.
  • Collaborate with system engineers and developers to integrate Ensemble with VX130 mirror systems, Oracle Health platforms, and the VA Corporate Data Warehouse.
  • Contribute to deployment planning, regression testing, and configuration management for production Ensemble environments.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including interface control documents, message tracking reports, and configuration guides.

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related technical field OR 8 years of additional relevant work experience may be substituted for educational requirement.
  • 5+ years of experience developing with InterSystems Ensemble and Caché, including ObjectScript and HL7/FHIR integration.
  • Strong understanding of message-based integration patterns and healthcare interoperability standards.
  • Experience developing and supporting Ensemble productions in complex, high-volume environments.
  • Ability to analyze trace and error logs, troubleshoot interface failures, and identify performance bottlenecks.
  • Familiarity with IRIS or Caché databases, including SQL integration and performance tuning.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills, with a focus on interface traceability and auditability.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Able to travel, as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting VA systems or large-scale federal healthcare data platforms.
  • Familiarity with VX130, IRIS Mirrors, and Oracle Health data integration environments.
  • Experience with REST, SOAP, and file-based integration models.
  • Knowledge of container-based environments and deployment practices (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • InterSystems certifications or HL7/FHIR integration credentials.

Physical Environment

  • Predominantly Sedentary work. Work is performed in an office or home office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Requires the ability to walk short distances.
  • Exerting up to 15 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
