Essential Job Functions:
The Senior Judiciary Clerk position performs case processing duties and responsibilities daily which entails a high volume of data entry work within the Civil Department for Baltimore City Circuit Court. Ensures that the docket, cases, and other civil work is properly entered and assigned in the Odyssey system for use by courtroom clerks and appropriate personnel. Greets and assists the general public and court related personnel with information about case status, proper form completion, and office procedures. Utilizes computerized cash register to collect court fees and fines as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs daily case processing and clerical work in the civil department. Enters docket pleadings and orders into Odyssey computer system. Initiates new cases in computer system and assigns case numbers. Reviews and assists with making corrections to data entered into Odyssey.
Greets and assists the general public and court related personnel, responding to
inquiries regarding the proper completion of various court related forms and information
regarding court policies and procedures.
Receives, enters, and accounts for all monies received by the court for fines, court costs and other fees, utilizing a computerized cash register.
Reviews expungements, processes 2-507?s, Attorney Grievances and Habeas. Assists with pre-trial release/judges when processing habeas cases.
Assists Land Records with researching history of liens and its processes. Research civil cases with negative balances, money owed and other irregularities to determine sources of issue and billing.
Performs courtroom clerical work by attending hearings for Peace Orders, enters dispositions, orders, and costs into the DV office system.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma (or GED equivalent).
Experience: Two (2) years of work experience, to include one (1) year in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services.
Note:
A bachelor?s degree may substitute the required work experience.
A Paralegal/associate?s degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience.
A Paralegal Certificate may substitute the required work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
General office practices, procedures, and equipment.
Standard legal forms and documents used in the Judiciary.
Basic English and arithmetic to include, but not limited to, spelling, punctuation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Skill in:
Customer service and handling problems tactfully and patiently.
Typing on a personal computer.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to:
Conduct extensive research of court cases using mainframe, microfilm, etc.
Use standard office and business equipment including, but not limited to, personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, copier, microfilm machine, register, scanner, fax machine, etc.
Use and maintain alphabetical and numerical filing systems.
Communicate clearly, tactfully, and effectively with judges, the public, police agencies, attorneys, and other court officials and personnel, both verbally and in writing.
Understand and abide by departmental rules, regulations, and procedures.
Exercise tact, diplomacy, and impartiality in dealing with the public, law enforcement personnel, and attorneys.
Apply various court procedures accurately and effectively for assigned courtroom in accordance with courtroom protocols.
Follow procedures, verbal and written instructions, and protocols for any given assignment.
Use proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
Exercise independent judgment in interpreting and applying appropriate policy, procedure, rule, law, and/or regulation to a situation.
Multitask, adjust to situations quickly, set priorities, and handle pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Pay attention to detail.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, superiors, and/or the general public.
Physical Requirements:
Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Computer, telephone, copier machine, and fax machine.
Software and Computer Skills:
Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, Odyssey/Odyssey File & Serve.
