DHL has an opening for a Director of National Accounts of Sales. 

This important role will be responsible for maintaining close working relationships, generating new business from existing key customers and driving customer satisfaction.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, hires, manages and provides coaching and development to National Accounts Management staff for their Area
  • Overseas sales revenue generation, profit and/or expense objectives for the account management function within their Area of Responsibility
  • Develops sales plans and budgets for achieving sales goals within a defined set of key accounts
  • Manages the key account planning process, and develops and performs strategic plans (through subordinates) for all key accounts
  • Assists account management representatives in maintaining and expanding critical accounts
  • Identifies and pursues growth opportunities for key accounts within area assigned
  • Periodically visits key markets within area assigned to investigate operations and local conditions
  • Works with internal support team to improve sales and revenue growth within the Area
  • May maintain personal responsibility for one or more key accounts
  • Partners with other sales manager(s) to communicate sales problems, business observations, customer feedback, etc.
  • Gathers detailed information about accounts, identifies decision-makers, and understands strategic business challenges and priorities
  • Evaluates strategic opportunities within the Area assigned
  • Supervises two or more staff; responsible for coaching, training, and developing subordinate staff
  • Assigns work, sets completion dates, reviews work, and manages performance in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and performance management processes

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Has extensive depth of expertise and knowledge in specialized functions or business areas
  • A thorough understanding of specific aspects of work supervised and practical application to problems and situations ordinarily encountered
  • Develops advanced concepts, techniques, and standards
  • Develops new applications based on professional principles and theories
  • Viewed as expert in functional or business area within DHL
  • Deals with cross-cultural tactical issues
  • Typically requires BS/BA and 10+ years’ experience in related field, including at least 5 years of supervisory or management experience
  • Professional certification required in some areas
  • Superior communication, presentation, influencing, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to lead, motivate and influence without formal authority

Additional Information

  • This role includes extensive travel mostly across the Southeast area in the U.S. (up to 50% of the time)
  • The selected candidate can be based in Los Angeles or San Francisco, CA
