Title: Career Placement Specialist

Reports To: Outreach and Admissions Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

Responsible for student placement prior exit from Job Corps through job development activities and partnership development with employers and educators in the locations students resided after exit.

Essential Functions

  • Establish robust relationships with employers, community colleges, and other entities to ensure successful placements with good career pathway opportunities for economic self-sufficiency.
  • Establish thorough knowledge of and referrals to community-based services available for Job Corps graduates.
  • Document case notes that reflect service provided.
  • Maintain linkages with DOL, national, state and local agencies and employees to provide placement services.
  • Identify potential jobs, schools, military or other training program placements for separating graduates and former enrollees and conduct job development activities; maintain placement follow?up on separated graduates.
  • Directly place graduates and former enrollees to meet DOL contractual placement goals; verify and document all placements according to requirements.
  • Prepare placement reports and assist in the development of the contract’s placement plan.
  • Participate in industry advisory councils, community relations councils as assigned.
  • As requested, conduct career support activities in support of centers and regional office efforts.
  • Participate in the development of new and revised policies and procedures affecting placement activities.
  • Promote the development of career success standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students when necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.
  • Maintains connection with employer partners and conducts employer satisfaction surveys.
  • Other duties as required.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

This is largely a sedentary role, requiring use of typical office equipment such as a computer, laptop and cell phone. Walking, sitting, standing.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full time, exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Travel

This position does not require travel.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, business communications, or closely related field OR
  • Associates degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, business, communications, or closely related field
  • 2 year related experience
  • Valid Driver's License in the state of employment

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Expereince with youth, excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer proficiency
  • Valid drivers licence with an acceptable driving record

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Required is I-9 documentation, to verify authorization to work in the United States.
