Position Summary

ANSER is seeking a Nuclear Weapons Council Analyst. This role directly supports the Nuclear Weapons Council (NWC) by conducting research, analysis, and coordination on a wide range of issues related to the U.S. nuclear deterrent mission and posture. In this role you will draft, edit, and manage policy, procedural, and reporting documents intended for the highest levels of government, including the President and Congress. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate complex nuclear stockpile issues into clear, concise summaries for senior DoD leaders.
  • Review and summarize congressional testimony, legislation, and reports relevant to nuclear equities; support leadership preparation for congressional engagements.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders across National Labs, NNSA, USSTRATCOM, Joint Staff, OUSD offices, DTRA, Armed Services, and the Intelligence Community on nuclear weapons issues.
  • Support OSDs statutory and presidentially mandated reporting, including data collection, drafting, coordination, and final delivery.
  • Assist in the management and execution of NWC and subordinate committee functions, including:
    • Maintaining rosters, distribution lists, and planning calendars.
    • Providing meeting support (logistics, scheduling, slides, minutes, action item tracking).
    • Managing office automation, file systems, and database support.
    • Supporting logistics for NWC trips and field visits.
  • Support DoD participation in oversight bodies, studies, policy reviews, and inquiries related to the nuclear arsenal.
  • Deliver client-ready written products (memos, briefs, reports) for senior DoD officials.
  • Apply critical thinking to navigate complex, multi-stakeholder issues with competing interests.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret clearance, SCI eligible.
  • Bachelors degree in national security, international relations, engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in defense, nuclear policy, or related fields.
  • Proven experience providing staff support in a government or defense environment.
  • Prior experience providing effective and succinct written communication with executive-level government officials.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience as a Congressional Liaison or in direct congressional engagement.
