Position Summary
The Director of Quality (DoQ) is primarily responsible for driving excellence in the delivered quality of all RIX products and services. The DoQ also enables operational efficiency gains by proactively promoting supply chain quality, continuously improving the reliability of internal processes, and by generally eliminating waste from rejections throughout the value stream. The DoQ designs and implements a system for quality administration and for monitoring critical operational outcomes. The DoQ is the principal leader for the documentation and enforcement of the RIX Quality Management System. The DoQ is a senior advocate for continuous improvement in RIX Industries' processes. These responsibilities cover both RIX facilities (Sparks, NV and Benicia, CA).
Responsibilities
- Directly supervises the Quality System functional leaders, influencing their personal development and effective performance.
- Ensures quality management staff are properly equipped and trained to efficiently execute their assigned duties.
- Develops, maintains and manages Departmental plans, budgets and schedules ensuring progress toward strategic and annual business objectives.
- Promotes improvement of the RIX ERP implementation.
- Leads the authorship, maintenance and enforcement of the RIX Quality Management System.
- Serves as a senior advocate and participant in the RIX Continuous Improvement campaign.
- Leads the ideation, planning and implementation of policies and procedures intent on maximizing the efficiency of the RIX quality assurance and control process, while also accelerating material flow through the factories.
- Provides senior policy and process leadership over the integration of Production Readiness development as a core requirement in the RIX New Product Introduction process. In particular, the DoQ ensures the early development of quality assurance and control plans as new configurations emerge, both at vendors and within the RIX factories.
- Plays a senior, leading role developing strategies and policies that promote excellence in supplier quality through ongoing collaboration with the Supply Chain Management and Engineering functions.
- Plays a leading, proactive role in the advancement and certification of RIX manufacturing core competencies, in particular welding.
- Serves as the lead, Level 3 authority for RIX's welding program which requires continuous requirements awareness, process refinement and welder certification program management.
- Promotes reductions in factory waste by advocating for, and engaging in, material processing enhancements aimed at minimizing errors, rework and damage.
- Directs RIX resources in the development and implementation of a performance measurement system comprised of Key Performance Indices (KPI) that validate the efficacy of existing processes and process changes.
- Promotes a collaborative Departmental relationship with all RIX functions.
- Perform all other duties in the best interest of the company or as directed by the Chief Operations Officer.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering or Quality related field; or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Training, experience or education in management of continuous improvement, change management and Lean/Six Sigma disciplines
- Supplemental education or related experience in Quality Management System implementation, management and reporting.
- Fifteen years' experience in Quality Management of complex manufacturing and supplier quality operations.
- Five years' management experience with responsibility under Quality Systems meeting the requirements of ISO9001 and/or AS9100.
- Intimate familiarity with Operational value streams and workflows
- Exceptional communications skills, including group presentations
- Demonstrated process development skills
- Knowledge and practiced application of accounting, budgeting and scheduling processes
- Practiced leadership skills at a senior level
- Practiced application of Lean/Six Sigma tools
- Ability to balance multiple projects & processes simultaneously while maintaining exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to understand the use and application of Air and Gas Compressors and Generators.
- Citizenship: U.S. Citizen or qualified U.S. Person in accordance with ALU 22CFR 120.1
A successful track record of
- Developing, deploying and leveraging Operational key performance indicators (KPI) to promote Operations Excellence
- Operations analytics and performance assessment to identify opportunities for cost and risk mitigation
- Developing strategic and tactical management plans
- Problem solving in a manufacturing environment
- Basic Computer skills with the ability to adapt to a variety of software applications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Access, EXCEL, Word, Project, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of the Sales & Operations Planning process.
- Training, experience or education in AS9100, ISO 9001, MIL-I-45208A, MIL-Q-9858 and/or IATF16949 requirements.
- Training, experience or education in Statistical Quality Techniques.
- Memberships in ASQC & AWS.
Physical Requirements
1. This position is regularly exposed to the following conditions:
- Manufacturing, warehouse and office environment.
- While working near moving equipment, mechanical parts and lift trucks; must have the ability to follow safe operating procedures.
- May be exposed to loud noise, fumes and/or toxic chemicals.
2. Must have the following physical abilities:
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch, reach, and lift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods at a desk or table as well as machine tools or printers.
