RANGE OPERATIONS SPECIALIST IV

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: May assist other test/training sites located in numerous geographical locations on the Eglin range complex including Santa Rosa Island. Functions will include but not limited to performing pre-mission, during mission and post mission inspections and functions related to mission/test/training support such as Target Observer, road guard support, test/mission coordinating, and checking in, observing and checking out using units utilizing ranges; automated target system (ATS) set-up and operations; inspecting range facilities; gathering range/training/test data; securing ranges and minor repairs of range apparatuses; inspecting vehicles, housekeeping and other duties as assigned. Additional functions may include coordinating and setting up road guards for mission/test/training operations; access and navigate Daily Mission Schedules/CSE/RFMSS to interpret site’s daily mission requirements and Range Control Officer functions.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Reports to a site supervisor and/or senior level technicians at the C-52 Complex and provides support in such areas as research, design, development, testing, range mission requirements/operations, or process improvement.
  • Work may pertain to electrical, electronic, or mechanical components or equipment and/or range support items.
  • Assists with the design, evaluation, and/or modification of machinery and equipment and supporting range/testing/training operations.
  • Performs simple routine or repetitive tasks under supervision or from detailed procedures.
  • Work is checked in progress or on completion.
  • Work may be performed independently or with other technicians.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to make critical decisions.
  • Performs duties such as: Assembling or installing test/training equipment or parts requiring connecting; performing simple or routine tests or mission support requirements; operating and adjusting simple test equipment; recording test/training data; gathering and maintaining specified records of data such as tests, drawings, etc.; performing computations by substituting numbers in specified formulas; plotting data and may draw simple curves and graphs and generating required reports.
  • Assignments are complex in nature and are reviewed by supervisor, engineer, or senior technician for adequacy and conformity.
  • Gathering range/training/test data; securing ranges and minor repairs of range apparatuses; inspecting vehicles.
  • Additional functions may include access and navigate Daily Mission Schedules/CSE/RFMSS to interpret site’s daily mission requirements and Range Control Officer/Range Inspector functions.
  • Must be familiar with the JTTOCC and its function on Eglin AFB. Must be familiar with Eglin’s range access
  • ("Z”clearances) and operational procedures.
  • Must be familiar with US Army training range procedures as related to Eglin AFB and USATR Fire Desk operations.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of Surface Danger Zones (SDZs) and Weapon Profiles as related to Eglin test/training operations.
  • Must be familiar with radio operations/etiquette as related to Eglin range operations.
  • Must be able to navigate the Eglin Test and Training Complex day or night without a map.


Job Requirements:

OTHER DUTIES: Additional duties may be assigned to support contract/mission support requirements in job-related areas. May be required to handle hazardous material/hazardous waste and other duties as assigned. May be required to train lower level technicians. May be required to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High school graduate or equivalent (GED) and a Certification in a technical field or a graduate of a technical military service school plus six years of related experience is required. 8 years’ experience in working directly in the test/training range environment may be substituted for education requirement.

Incumbent must have at least one of the following:

1. 4 years’ experience with Open Air Range’s operations and Range Control Officer (RCO) certification on a minimum of two Open Air Ranges.

2. 4 years’ military experience in combat arms, Military Police, or instructor level military weapons training.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Must be able to pass physical and eye exams related to the job functions. Supports E-OMS operational objectives; observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies; supports Process Improvement. Must be able to perform Test Area Controller (TAC) function related to Open Air Range (OAR) operations, Range Inspector and Automated Target Systems (ATS) operations related to US Army Training Range (USATR) operations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: May perform duties both inside and outside and be subjected to a variety of environmental conditions typical to the work area. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Occasionally required to stoop, bend, kneel, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, and move heavy items. Must be able to lift 50lbs and negotiate stairways without difficulty.
