CONTINGENT POSITION

JOB SUMMARY

We are looking for a senior-level Data Scientist to support the Army G-6 with advanced semantic modeling, ontology development, and quantitative data analysis. The ideal candidate will be adept at using large datasets to uncover opportunities for mission optimization, while designing and implementing semantic models and knowledge graphs that support smarter decision-making across Army operational domains. They must have strong experience in data mining, model building, and statistical analysis, combined with technical proficiency in semantic technologies. The right candidate will have a passion for structuring complex data into actionable insights and collaborating with stakeholders to improve mission outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with Army stakeholders to identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive operational and strategic solutions.
  • Design and develop semantic models and ontologies using OWL, RDF, and SHACL to represent complex mission concepts.
  • Build, query, and maintain knowledge graphs (Neo4j, JanusGraph, Vantage, ADVANA) to capture relationships among entities.
  • Mine and analyze structured/unstructured datasets to identify trends, correlations, and mission-relevant insights.
  • Develop predictive models, simulations, and algorithms to support operational decision-making.
  • Perform ETL processes to integrate and validate data from multiple Army and enterprise sources.
  • Visualize and present findings to stakeholders using dashboards, reports, and knowledge graph queries.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional and joint teams to implement models and monitor outcomes.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on mission-focused data science.
  • Proficiency in statistical computer languages (Python, R, SQL) for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Experience working with and creating data architectures, including semantic/ontology-driven frameworks.
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques (clustering, regression, neural networks, decision trees) and their real-world applications.
  • Familiarity with semantic technologies and tools: RDF, OWL, SHACL, Protégé.
  • Experience with graph databases and query languages: Neo4j, JanusGraph, SPARQL, Cypher.
  • Hands-on experience with ETL processes and distributed data/computing tools (Hadoop, Spark, Hive, NiFi).
  • Strong skills in data visualization (Tableau, Power BI, Matplotlib, Seaborn, ggplot).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for coordination across Army, joint, and interagency teams.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications include:

  • 5–7 years of experience manipulating datasets, building statistical models, and applying advanced analytics.
  • Master’s or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
  • Experience designing and implementing semantic models and knowledge graphs.
  • Active Secret-level security clearance.
