Laboratory Research Technician II - Das Lab

The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Immunology, is seeking a Full-time Technician to support research program in the laboratory of Dr. Jishnu Das. The Das lab research focus is on the development and use of novel systems approaches to analyze high-dimensional immunological datasets, and elucidate mechanisms of immune regulation and dysregulation. Our previous work has utilized systems approaches to analyze Mendelian mutations in the context of three-dimensional protein-protein interaction networks, to understand molecular mechanisms of corresponding disorders. We have also developed network analyses frameworks to characterize the evolutionary dynamics of these protein networks. Another dimension of our past work has been the use of statistical methods for the analyses of high-dimensional data and machine-learning approaches to elucidate correlates of natural and vaccine-mediated immunity in HIV, tuberculosis and malaria.

Responsibilities: Our lab has two published models (SLIDE and SWING) that many collaborators ask us to help run on their samples and adapt the models to their problems. We need more support for these situations to meet demand. This new position will focus on both running the models and further developing ways to make these models more usable for the broader scientific community. Basic skillset required for this position includes experience in statistics, machine learning, and coding in Python and R. Other useful skills include work in immunology/biology and experience with single-cell omics and sequence data.

Qualifications: A Bacherlor’s Degree in Immunology, Biology or related field plus one (1) Year of Professional Years of Experience is preferred in immunology/biology and experience with single-cell omics and sequence data. Experience in statistics, machine learning, and coding in Python and R is required.
