Job Summary
The laboratory of Dr. Caroline Geisler, in the College of Pharmacy, is seeking a Research Assistant Senior.

The Research Assistant Sr. will primarily oversee animal care and use, training, and personnel management, and ensure compliance with all approved protocols and applicable IACUC policies; maintain breeding schemes and inventories of lab animals, supplies, samples, and lab training personnel records; organize lab space; maintain chemical hygiene plan and safety documentation; order supplies and maintain inventory; manage chemical and biohazard wastes.

For animal studies, plasma samples will be collected for determining hormone/metabolite concentrations by ELISA or colorimetric assay. Brain tissue samples will be sectioned by cryostat and stained by immunohistochemistry or fluorescent in situ hybridization, followed by microscopy and image analysis to determine protein/gene expression changes under different experimental conditions.

They will also prepare materials for experimental procedures in animals and execute in vivo testing of rats and mice including oral glucose tolerance tests, insulin tolerance tests, and assessing feeding behavior. Skills include handling, injections (intraperitoneal, subcutaneous, and intracerebroventricular), and blood collection. Conduct cardiac perfusions and tissue extraction sacrifice procedures. Comply with all DLAR policies and coordinate personnel.
