Job Summary
The Kentucky Transportation Center (KTC) seeks applicants for a Research Scientist Principal Associate/KTC. Prospective applicants should be interested in multidisciplinary transportation research and working on a broad range of topics. The Center performs research in several areas for local, state, and federal transportation agencies. Research foci include highway design; project management; pavement design and maintenance; infrastructure assessment and roadway forensic analysis; construction management; highway and infrastructure safety; structural engineering and preservation; intelligent transportation systems; economic, financial, and policy dimensions of transportation; traffic operations; and environmental analysis.

Prospective applicants should have at least three (3) years of research experience in one or more of the areas listed above. The Research Scientist Principal Associate may supervise one or more research scientists or technicians, and must have demonstrated abilities in planning, scoping, and managing complex research projects. The Research Scientist Principal Associate is expected to assist program managers and KTC leadership with building lasting partnerships with our clients, transportation organizations, and agencies. They should have demonstrated experience preparing research reports, grant proposals, and materials that facilitate technology transfer. Candidates with less research experience or knowledge outside of the areas listed above may be considered on a case-by-case basis based on their qualifications.

KTC is a vibrant, dynamic, and collegial environment where salary and benefits packages are competitive with the private sector. Our key benefits include:
  1. a wide selection of affordable health care plans (HMO, PPO, RHP, EPO), vision insurance options, and dental insurance plans to fit your needs
  2. generous retirement savings plans managed through Fidelity or TIAA — the University of Kentucky provides a 200% match on monthly employee contributions
  3. 15 days of vacation per year (initially), 12 days of sick leave, and 13 days of paid holidays
  4. flexible work arrangements — many KTC staff have the option of working 2-3 days remotely each week, with schedules developed in consultation with supervisors
  5. many opportunities for professional development — the Center invests in staff by funding attendance at local, regional, and national conferences, trainings, and other short courses
  6. the University of Kentucky’s Employee Education Program (EEP), which provides tuition waivers for up to 18 credit hours per academic year

At KTC there is no shortage of interesting, exciting, and challenging work. We remain committed to building a respectful workplace that recognizes employees perform their best when they maintain a healthy work-life balance. Come join us in building the transportation systems of the future!
