Position Summary
The Public Safety Systems Administrator and Identity Systems Specialist provides direct technology administration to several key public safety systems and provides support, triage, and consultation to the Identity and Access Management team. The core public safety systems include the access control system, emergency alert/timely-warning notification systems, and computer-aided dispatch platforms.
Summary of position duties:
- Public Safety Systems Administration (40%) – Provide technology oversight, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of key critical life safety systems used by Campus Public Safety and Emergency Response teams. These include: Avigilon (Access and Camera control), Rave (emergency alert/timely notice), and Computer-aided Dispatch (digital dispatch, police reporting).
- ID Card Services Platform Administration (25%) – Co-administer ID card services, technology platforms, and systems in concert with the ID Card Services Administrator. Systems include: Avigilon badge printing, online photo submission, printing software, future mobile credential platform, system and service map for ID card services, integrations map of all known ID card and access control usage across campus.
- Identity and Access Management Support (20%) – Provide support for the account claim, identity records, synchronization, and related IAM systems, acting as a point of escalation between front-line support for identity issues as they arise. Be an active member of the IAM team, reporting systemic issues, representing the customer experience in team meetings, and supporting prioritization and projects related to IAM improvements.
- Documentation and Training (10%) – Create and maintain documentation related to public safety systems and in support of IAM operations as appropriate including internal documentation, external/public documentation, process/procedural, etc.
- Other duties as assigned (5%)
Minimum Qualifications from Classification
This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge in operating systems programs, maintenance, systems administration, and network systems that would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science, engineering mathematics, telecommunications or a related technical field, or equivalent technical training and/or experience.
Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position
- Experience with public safety, access control, and/or identity and authentication systems.
- Minimum of seven years of experience in a professional-level position providing advanced troubleshooting or system administration
- Advanced experience in troubleshooting networking, devices, and applications.
- Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience administering cloud or locally hosted applications, including installation, configuration, and maintenance
- Demonstrated experience developing system, process, and procedural documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
A successful candidate will have experience and knowledge in some of the following:
- Experience working with, collaborating, and supporting people from a diverse range of perspectives and backgrounds.
- Ability to develop solutions and procedures to improve operations.
- Experience documenting policies and procedures.
- Experience developing and conducting training.
- Experience or certification in project management tools/techniques.
- Experience administering applications
- Experience working with databases and/or electronic records management such as ERPs, HRIS, databases, student information systems, and/or access control systems.
- Experience designing, implementing, and integrating software/hardware solutions.
- Experience supporting the implementation and maintenance of security technologies (cameras, ID cards, access control systems, digital keys, etc.).
- Experience configuring, supporting, and maintaining printers.
- Training or certification specific to access control, card reader, security camera, or related technologies.
- Experience managing server operating systems and configurations (Windows Server or Linux)
- Knowledge of basic scripting (Powershell, Python, bash, etc.)

The starting annual salary rate for this position will be between $56,472 and $67,776 per year with an excellent benefits package, including 95% employer-paid health insurance premiums (employees and eligible dependents) and significantly reduced tuition rates for employees and eligible dependents at any of the Oregon Public Universities. After completing six full months, employees are eligible to choose between our two employer-paid retirement programs in addition to two voluntary programs. Wellness options include access to the PSU rec center at a reduced rate and free wellness programs.
