Description:

The Semmes Murphey Clinic is looking to hire a full time, onsite Block Scheduling Coordinator. This role ensures timely and efficient scheduling of the SMC patients and assist in providing continuity of patient care through the duties detailed below. The team is comprised of various clinical staff members and works within the Ambulatory Surgery Center.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates the care between the pain management clinic, the insurance department, and the ASC preadmission team
  • Works with patients over the phone or in person to schedule appointment time for block procedure
  • Documents and maintains accurate records to meet regulatory standards required in ASC settings
  • Reschedules appointments and resolves scheduling conflicts or changes
  • Follows procedural guidelines to ensure patient safety, maintains or improves quality outcomes, and escalates patient questions and clinical activities to nursing staff where applicable
  • Schedules procedures within guidelines for the Center of Excellence (COE) service level agreement
  • Maintains history and physicals documentation; ensures they are uploaded properly and assigned an expiration date
  • Works closely with nursing staff to ensure patients are contacted in a timely manner
  • Ensures the scheduling of procedures is optimized for efficiency; balancing needs of physicians, clinical staff, and patients to maximize productivity and minimize delays
Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High school education
  • Two (2) years related experience in a healthcare environment, with previous scheduling responsibilities
  • BLS Certification (current)

PREFERRED

  • LPN License
  • Experience providing concierge/boutique level customer service

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word), electronic medical records (EMR), medical practice software and internet applications
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service during difficult or emotional situations and with a high level of confidentiality and discretion
  • Effective communication both oral and written
  • Working knowledge of insurance requirements, medical/clinical terminology, medical necessities associated with various clinical procedure codes, and certification/scheduling workflow
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to professionally interact with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to manage various responsibilities with multiple deadlines and competing demands
  • Can identify ways to streamline processes and improve efficiency without sacrificing quality and accuracy
