The Department of Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh announces a position for a Research Associate. The position will be fully funded internally. We seek an individual with a background in psycholinguistics and specific research interests in sentence comprehension. The candidate should have expertise in experimental design, programming, and data collection from human participants. Additional expertise in psychometrics, eye tracking, and/or computational modeling would be beneficial. The candidate also should have a demonstrated track record of scholarly publications and an interest in conducting research working with adult language users, possibly including adult language learners and individuals with aphasia. Substantively, research interests could include a range of interests, for example:?

  • Investigating the relationships between knowledge of the world/events and knowledge of language, and how language users trade off these kinds of knowledge when understanding sentences.
  • Developing new psychometrically robust measures to index the intactness of world/event knowledge.
  • Investigating the processing of negation and/or plurals.

The person filling this position will complement the current strengths of the Psychology Department and partnerships with other units, which for the present project includes a collaboration with Communication Science and Disorders.

Eligible candidates will have a minimum of a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology or linguistics (or related discipline).??
