Responsibilities

This is a full-time remote position that can be located anywhere in the U.S.

 

We are seeking a Software QA Engineer 2 to join our Product Development team, focusing on our Workers Compensation Medical Bill Review, and Utilization Review platforms. In this role, you will apply your developing professional expertise in quality assurance to debug, test, and automate complex healthcare software systems while building your knowledge of medical billing workflows, API integrations, and EDI transaction processing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Debug software products through systematic testing of Workers Compensation medical bill review workflows, fee schedule calculations, and utilization review processes
  • Develop, modify, support, execute, and automate software test plans and test scripts for medical billing validation, API endpoints, and EDI transaction processing
  • Code test harnesses and automation scripts using scripting languages to validate medical billing calculations, CPT/ICD coding verification, and healthcare data integrations
  • Analyze and write test standards and procedures for API testing (REST/SOAP), EDI workflows (X12 837, 835, 278, 270/271), and medical billing compliance
  • Test integration points with medical provider networks, pharmacy benefit management systems, and healthcare clearinghouses through API and EDI channels
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of test results for medical billing accuracy, API response validation, and EDI transaction processing to assist in debugging and software modification
  • Analyze test results for existing functionality in utilization review algorithms, medical necessity determinations, and prior authorization workflows
  • Validate API security protocols, authentication mechanisms, and data encryption for healthcare information exchange
  • Test EDI acknowledgment processing, error handling, and transaction retry logic for medical bill submissions
  • Consult with development engineers to resolve problems in medical workflow automation and healthcare data integration challenges
  • Participate in and provide input for code/design walkthroughs and reviews for healthcare-specific features, API specifications, and EDI implementations
  • Provide feedback in preparation of technical appraisals for healthcare integration technologies and medical billing system enhancements
  • Ensure quality integration of healthcare systems into overall platform functionality including data acquisition and processing workflows

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of related software quality assurance experience, or advanced degree without experience
  • Programming: Knowledge and familiarity with at least one scripting language for test automation
  • Development Background: Experience in coding/code debugging either in a development or QA role
  • Healthcare Interest: Willingness to learn medical billing processes, CPT/ICD coding, and Workers Compensation regulations
  • API Testing: Basic understanding of REST/SOAP APIs, JSON/XML data formats, and web services (preferred)
  • EDI Awareness: Interest in learning EDI standards and healthcare transaction processing (training provided)
  • Problem-Solving: Good judgment in determining appropriate testing actions for moderate scope problems involving healthcare workflows
  • Collaboration: Ability to build productive internal and external working relationships with development teams and healthcare stakeholders
  • Growth Mindset: Developing professional expertise with creativity and judgment to resolve a variety of testing issues
