Supports the maintenance, monitoring, and basic configuration of enterprise systems under the guidance of senior IT staff. Assists in system administration tasks including user account management, routine updates, and troubleshooting of hardware and software issues. Participates in the implementation of system changes and contributes to documentation and process improvement efforts. Works collaboratively with team members to ensure system reliability and performance, while gaining experience in enterprise-level infrastructure and administration practices.
Responsibilities
- Monitors the day-to-day operations of the server infrastructure.
- Configuration and maintenance of virtual and physical systems.
- Apply revisions to host system firmware and software.
- Coordinate with vendors to support troubleshooting and maintenance activities.
- Participate in planning and implementation of new systems and applications.
- Custom scripting and testing procedures to ensure system reliability.
- Contribute to problem-solving efforts alongside senior administrators and external support teams.
- Install and maintain server infrastructure.
- Maintain and monitor server infrastructure monitoring software.
- Establish guidelines, methods, and documentation for the management of the host systems, disk arrays, and other components.
- Follow procedures to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use and user abuse.
- Follow procedures for backup and restoration of server infrastructure and applications.
- Contribute to project planning and scheduling under the direction of senior team members.
- Manage all data centers including hardware, software and physical security of equipment.
- Work with facilities teams to support environmental needs of data centers (cooling, power, fire protection).
- Stay informed about emerging technologies and participate in discussions on potential improvements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic understanding of Windows and/or Linux operating systems.
- Familiarity with virtualization and cloud technologies (VMware, Azure).
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
- Understanding of Active Directory and user account management.
- Exposure to backup and recovery concepts.
- Basic knowledge of scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash).
- system performance monitoring tools.
- Competence in using system monitoring and diagnostic tools.
- Effective communication skills for working with team members and end users.
- Time management and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks.
- Ability to follow technical documentation and standard operating procedures.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and tools.
Education/Experience
- Associate’s degree in computer science or related discipline. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement.
- 2 years work experience in support of related systems.
- IT related certifications preferred.
