Director of Research Operations



The Office of the Provost leads the implementation of research-informed strategies to drive innovation and boost academic success across the University.

Building upon this established Research-Practitioner Model, this position expands the current scope of this work, by also supporting other Provost Priorities aligned with the first pillar of the Plan for Pitt where “we will cultivate student success.”


Job Summary

Leads a team and directs & oversees all operational aspects of the research program. Establishes and drives the vision, policies, fiscal functions, administration, and strategic plan of a research program to support the delivery of high-quality research services and ensure compliance with established professional, regulatory, and organizational standards and requirements. Formulates budgets and performs associated financial duties. Collaborates with and advises internal and external stakeholders and ensures adherence to regulations. Translates strategic plans into research operational plans oversees administrative matters.


Essential Functions
  • lead these types of evidence-based interventions in support of student success and belonging within the context of in-person and online graduate and undergraduate programs. An emphasis will be placed on making evidence-based interventions for student success the norm across all OTP-led academic initiatives.
  • serve as a research liaison (e.g., generating knowledge, disseminating findings, publishing reports, providing professional development) in support of educational change management initiatives led by the OTP. This will serve the dual goals of internally communicating the scientific grounding supporting these initiatives and the impact that these efforts have on our students and advancing the Plan for Pitt, while also amplifying the external visibility of the University of Pittsburgh as national leaders in this space.
  • In collaboration with Institutional Research and Analytics, they will support faculty research efforts using institutional data, helping seed individual faculty- or program-led initiatives to assess and improve the student experience here at the University of Pittsburgh. This function will provide support for evidence-based interventions at the grassroots level to complement ongoing institution-wide initiatives.
