Position Description

Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Physical Therapy

The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh, which is ranked number 8 in the US News and World Report, is currently recruiting adjunct faculty with a strong clinical background in physical therapy to teach in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program. The faculty member will be committed to excellence in didactic and clinical education. The part-time 12-month appointment in the appointment stream will be at the rank of Adjunct Instructor.

The Department is housed in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS), one of the six Schools of Health Sciences. We offer an entry-level professional Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree, which is currently offered in the traditional, on-campus format. A hybrid format for the DPT degree is under development, which will offer distance online education complemented by on-campus immersion experiences. The Department also features a post-professional Master of Science degree and a Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Sciences, both in the on-campus format. We also offer the Primary Spine Practitioner (PSP) and the Advanced Vestibular Physical Therapist certificates, which are delivered in a hybrid format.

Responsibilities for the Adjunct Faculty position include:

• Online and in-person instruction and/or laboratory assistance
• Collaborate with teaching faculty and leadership
• Curriculum planning
• Content development
• Creation of assessment tools
• Teaching support
• Facilitations of small group break-out sessions/group discussions
• Grading and evaluating student performance
• Completing assessments
• Proctoring exams
• Providing ancillary support services for instructors as needed

Requirements for the position at the level of Adjunct Instructor:

  • Earned entry-level professional PT degree from a CAPTE-accredited program with an active PT license in the United States;

This is an appointment stream, a part-time position. The time commitment varies by course.
