Leidos’ Defense Systems, Sensor Systems Analysis & Engineering Portfolio, is seeking a Mid-Level Optical Engineer to join our team for a variety of applications. You will join a diverse team of junior-to-senior software developers, engineers, and scientists to help create unique solutions for complex problems. Our team solves important problems that make a difference and support our customers in the current and future defense of our nation; primarily in (but not limited to) the areas of sensor integration, testing, characterization, modeling, simulation, data analysis, and algorithm development for electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) systems. The ideal engineering candidate would be required to have a working knowledge of and ability to apply standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques to solve problems in a variety of contexts in which optical engineering would apply to EO/IR sensor systems and the modeling/testing/integration thereof.

??Primary Responsibilities
Work and communicate effectively with a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating the ability to explain optical engineering technical solutions, practices, and procedures with others.
Develop technical optical engineering solutions that require collaboration with internal experts, deep analyses, and understanding of impact on end-product/solution—developing solutions to technical problems and issues that are unclear and require deep technical knowledge.
Work and communicate effectively with a multidisciplinary team while having familiarity with software tools often used for EO/IR analysis.

?Basic Qualifications
? ?Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, optical engineering, engineering physics, software engineering, computer science, or an equivalent engineering or science degree with ?4-8 years of relevant experience in a related field or Master's degree from an accredited university in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, optical engineering, engineering physics, software engineering, computer science, or an equivalent engineering or science degree with 2-6 years of relevant experience in a related field.
Must be driven and engaged in their work while simultaneously demonstrating high character, given that they will often be working on sensitive and unique problems which require a high degree of trust from our customers
?Must be a US citizen, possess and be able to maintain an active DoD security clearance (SECRET or above).
?Must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville – North Alabama, AL, area.

?Preferred Qualifications
?In addition to the qualifications listed above, the ideal candidate should be willing to take on greater roles and responsibilities in time such as task lead, team lead, and technical lead.
?Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following: Familiarity or interest in EO/IR phenomenology or algorithms
Experience with image processing
Experience with EO/IR camera testing.
