GMC has an opening for Aviation Planner to support Aviation Projects in our Montgomery, AL office. At GMC, we are about Building Communities and being committed to our team members and partners. With our team members, our work environment fosters personal growth, resourcefulness, and the ability to solve complex problems through experience, innovation, and creativity.  General characteristics for this position include using judgment to determine adaptations in methods for non-routine aspects of assignments, being familiar with Advisory Circular on airport design AC 150/5300-13A, being familiar with FAA Parts 77 and 139, and possessing a broad knowledge and skills with regard to airport planning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists engineering staff in researching FAA guidelines and regulations pertaining to airport design issues, master planning, Airport Layout Plans (ALP), etc.
  • Be familiar with airport operations including fuel inspections and be certified to conduct these inspections as required
  • Manages airport annual Airport Improvement Program grants after given construction and other estimates from engineering staff
  • Performs research and investigations as required to assist engineering staff
  • Assists in preparing project documents to include editing of ALPs
  • Assists in operation and administration of Part 139 airport(s) as required
  • Assists in determining schedule and work requirements
  • Receives instruction on specific project objectives
  • Receives direction on unconventional and/or complex problems and possible solutions
  • Independently performs most assignments with instructions as to the expected results
  • Interacts with clients, officials, contractors, engineers and others
  • Attends project and public municipal meetings and presents specific plans or proposals
  • Demonstrates leadership skills and continuous improvement with decision making and time management

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in aviation management or business
  • 3 to 5 years in airport management or aviation field
  • Licensure or Certification: “AAAE CM or AICP preferred”
