Physical Requirements
Ability to lift 25 lbs. boxes, push wheeled carts, and move stacks of publications from one storage location to another. Ability to handle materials above head to shelve/store. Typing, sitting for long periods of time, operating scanning equipment.
Shift
Weekdays between 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Job Summary
The Kentucky Geological Survey is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated individual for a federal work study student position. The position will include organization and cataloging of the publications and documents at the Mining and Mineral Resources Building.
What you’ll do:
  • Catalog research documents, including publications, theses and maps
  • Learning established KGS naming conventions for files and other resources
  • Use established criteria for scanning needs
  • Recording metadata and description of physical and digital representations of items
  • Work closely with KGS staff to ensure data conformity and collection management systems
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Attention to detail, organizational skills, excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills, teamwork, must have legible handwriting, data entry, filing and scanning experience.
Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? NoPreferred Education/Experience
Experience with data management, Excel or similar spreadsheet tools; entering item-level metadata; experience organizing and cataloging collections of physical items; interest in preservation and archival storage a plus. Library Science majors preferred.
