Title: Math Tutor

Unit: Part-Time MCCC Professional Staff (Grant Funded Position)

Department: Student Affairs, Student Support Services

Reports to: Director, TRIO Program for Student Achievement

Date: August 27, 2025

General Summary: The part-time Math Tutor positions offers math tutoring services to students who are apart of the TRIO Program for Student Achievement which helps students with documented disabilities navigate the college experience, providing individual academic support to help improve math function skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct outreach prior to the beginning of each semester to all student enrolled in Math and Math-related courses.
  • Provide tutoring in math/ math-related courses to project participants
  • Consistent and timely documentation of services provided in Student Access Database
  • Development and implementation of resources and materials necessary to support individual student learning needs
  • Attendance at and participation in staff meetings and trainings
  • Maintain consistent and timely communication with supervisor


Job Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in Education or Math or closely related field
  • Experience teaching students with disabilities at the high school or postsecondary level
  • Experience providing individual or group tutoring in math and employing various learning strategies to meet student needs
  • Experience providing targeted remedial work to assist students with taking math proficiency exams required to enter certain career programs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of best practices in supporting students with learning differences
  • The ability to responsibly handle confidential/sensitive information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Math or closely related field
  • Sensitivity to students' intersecting identities and needs
  • Knowledge of theoretical information on student development and working with students with documented disabilities
  • Understanding of FERPA, ADA law, and other laws/regulations that pertain to working with college students is expected.
  • Tutoring or academic coaching certification.


Additional Information:

This position is supported through federal grant funding. While the college is fully committed to the success of this program, continued employment in this role is contingent upon ongoing grant funding. Should federal funding change in the future, the position may be impacted.

Salary Range: $35.31/ hour in accordance with MCCC Part-Time Professional Staff Salary Chart

Location: Lowell campus with occasional travel to Bedford as needed

Hours: 10 hours per week, schedule to be determined upon hire. This position is not eligible for a telework schedule.

Expected Start Date: September/October 2025
