VAE, Inc. is seeking a skilled Network Engineer with expertise in Cisco Nexus platforms and Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) to support a federal government contract. The candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, securing, and maintaining network infrastructure in compliance with federal cybersecurity and operational standards.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

VAE, Inc. is seeking a skilled Network Engineer with expertise in Cisco Nexus platforms and Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) to support a federal government contract. The candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, securing, and maintaining network infrastructure in compliance with federal cybersecurity and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, configure, and maintain Cisco Nexus switches, routers, and firewalls to support secure enterprise network operations.
  • Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot Cisco ISE for network access control (NAC), authentication, and policy enforcement.
  • Support integration of Cisco technologies with federal Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) and compliance frameworks.
  • Conduct network monitoring, performance tuning, and incident response for mission-critical systems.
  • Develop and maintain network documentation, diagrams, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure compliance with NIST, FISMA, and DoD STIGs.
  • Provide Tier 2/Tier 3 support for escalated network issues in a classified/unclassified environment.
  • Assist with network migrations, upgrades, and modernization projects involving Cisco Nexus platforms.



QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications:

  • Active U.S. Security Clearance (Secret or higher, depending on contract).
  • 5+ years of hands-on network engineering experience.
  • Proven experience with Cisco Nexus (7K, 9K series) configuration and operations.
  • Strong expertise in Cisco ISE deployment, policy creation, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), MPLS, and VLANs.
  • Familiarity with network security principles, VPNs, firewalls, and IPS/IDS.
  • Experience working in federal government or DoD contractor environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Cisco certifications (CCNP, CCIE, or CCNP Security).
  • Experience with ACI (Application Centric Infrastructure) and automation (Python, Ansible).
  • Knowledge of DISA STIGs, RMF, and DoD network security requirements.
  • Previous experience supporting mission-critical DoD or federal agency networks.
