Title: Local Consumer Protection Advocate

General Summary: Since 1989, the Middlesex Community College Law Center has offered community dispute resolution, face-to-face mediation, and conflict resolution services. These programs are free for all and are supported by MCC and the Attorney General's Office. The College is seeking an individual to work on a part-time basis to serve as the Local Consumer Protection (LCP) Advocate. The LCP Advocate is responsible for a caseload of consumer complaints received from the Attorney General and manages a caseload of up to 25-30 cases at any given time.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct telephone advocacy to resolve individual consumer complaints
Keep detailed case notes immediately and contemporaneously as each case progresses
Write clear and concise case notes so that others can understand the status of the case at any given time
Provide consumer information, resources, education and assistance to the public, referrals to legal aid resources and or governmental agencies
Participate in regular training sessions on mediation and Law Center policies and procedures
Answer incoming phone calls to the Law Center and take detailed messages
Process Law Center regular mail and email according to prescribed guidelines
Update the OnBase database of assigned cases daily
Check for newly assigned cases every work day
Regularly review all cases with supervisor and/or assigned mentor
Draft specialized letters to Consumers or Businesses (with supervision/permission)
Research business background and applicable local, state and federal laws for each case
Maintain working knowledge of all Law Center programs
Conduct introductory calls to consumers and businesses
Send introductory letters to consumers and businesses
Participate in outreach activities as needed
Other duties as required
Salary Range: $26.75 actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience.
Location: Bedford campus with occasional travel to Lowell as needed
Hours: 18 of hours per week, schedule to be determined upon hire
Expected Start Date: September/ October 2025
