Executive Director of Administration



The Office of the Executive Senior Vice Chancellor for Administration & Finance and CFO (ESVC) is seeking an Executive Director of Administration to provide high level strategic direction and financial oversight to Finance & Operations’ (F&O) Responsibility Centers. Reporting to the Chief of Staff for F&O, this role will serve as a senior advisor to both Senior Leadership throughout F&O as well as departmental Directors of Administration on all budgetary and financial matters. Duties associated with this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee and implement financial strategy across all Responsibility Centers in F&O, ensuring alignment with F&O’s strategic plan and goals

  • Create policies, procedures, and best practices for Directors of Administration across F&O, facilitating a community of practice

  • Serve as the main liaison between the F&O and the CFO for high-level inquiries

  • Meet with Responsibility Centers regularly for updates on financial performance and budget, providing guidance and directives

  • Review all requests for proposals for F&O, giving feedback

  • Conduct data analysis and reporting for the ESVC, using findings to inform financial strategy and goals

  • Perform final review of all budgets in F&O

  • Collaborate with the Chief of Staff and Senior Director of Human Resources to evaluate staffing models and their financial impact, making recommendations

  • Assist, as needed, with the activities and deliverables of the Capital Projects Review Board (CPRB) and the Property and Facilities Committee of the Board of Trustees, including preparation of materials and communication with the Office of the Secretary

  • Other special projects related to the strategic goals and operations of F&O, as assigned

Job Summary

The Director - Business Operations (Senior Office) provides high level strategic direction and administrative oversight to multiple Responsibility Centers. Duties include, but are not limited to, strategic planning and advising, oversight and approval processes for major capital projects, budget and financial management, strategic recruiting and human resources direction, data analysis and reporting, and supervision of staff. This role is a strategic advisor to executive-level positions throughout the Senior Office and the Responsibility Centers reporting up to the Senior Office.


Essential Functions

This position requires exceptional analytical skills with experience in budget/finance and strategic management. The incumbent will recommend, plan, and implement strategic financial initiatives across F&O. Human resources, policy creation, operations, and communications experience preferred. The impact of the incumbent’s actions is critical to the success of Pitt Finance & Operations.

Incumbent must be able to travel across campus for in person meetings.
