The Medical Billing & Collections Director will provide strategic leadership and direction for GA Foods’ billing and collections operations. This role is responsible for ensuring efficient, compliant, and timely revenue cycle processes with a strong emphasis on Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer billing. The Director will lead a team of up to 15 professionals, driving results through strategic planning, operational excellence, and solution-oriented leadership.
The ideal candidate is a proven leader in healthcare billing and collections, with deep expertise in payer requirements, denial management, and accounts receivable (AR) optimization. This individual will represent the billing function across the organization and ensure GA Foods’ financial health is strengthened through effective billing, collections, and cash flow strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to the Billing & Collections team (up to 15 members), ensuring accurate claim submissions, efficient collections, and timely resolution of billing discrepancies.
- Oversee billing activities for Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers, ensuring compliance with evolving regulations and payer requirements.
- Develop and execute strategies to reduce denials, improve collections, and accelerate cash flow, while maintaining excellent customer and payer relationships.
- Establish robust AR management practices, leveraging data-driven insights to improve cash forecasting, collections effectiveness, and revenue recognition.
- Oversee resolution of claim denials, payment variances, and payer disputes, collaborating directly with payers and clients when needed.
- Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Accounting, Planning, Sales, Compliance and IT to identify and implement process improvements that enhance revenue cycle efficiency.
- Drive the adoption and optimization of billing and AR software systems; serve as a key leader in system upgrades, testing, and implementations.
- Prepare and present billing and collections reports, providing actionable recommendations to senior leadership.
- Stay ahead of regulatory changes and industry trends to ensure GA Foods’ billing practices remain compliant and competitive.
- Foster a solution-oriented team culture, mentoring and coaching staff to grow professionally while holding the team accountable for results.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Minimum 7+ years of progressive experience in healthcare billing, collections, or revenue cycle management, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role managing a team.
- Demonstrated expertise in government-sponsored program billing (Medicare, Medicaid) and commercial payer processes.
- Track record of success in improving collections, reducing denials, and implementing strategic billing solutions.
- Strong proficiency with AR software and Microsoft Excel for financial reporting and analysis.
Preferred Skills
- Strategic thinker with the ability to translate financial and operational data into effective billing and collections strategies.
- Proven success managing teams of 10–15+ staff members, with a focus on coaching, accountability, and professional development.
- Strong expertise in Medicare, Medicaid, managed care payers, and government program billing/collections.
- Deep understanding of the revenue cycle including claim submission, payment posting, denial management, and collections.
- Hands-on experience with AR management and billing/collections software systems.
- Solution-oriented problem solver with strong analytical and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders.
- Comfortable managing competing deadlines and driving results in a fast-paced environment.
