The Villanueva Lab at the Center for Ultrasound Molecular Imaging and Therapeutics within the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology focuses on ultrasound-mediated therapeutics leveraging cavitation behaviors of ultrasound contrast agents (microbubbles) for targeted, image-guided delivery of molecular therapeutics for the treatment of cardiovascular disease, cancers, and neurodegenerative disease. The lab develops RNA-loaded microbubbles and performs in vitro and in vivo testing of ultrasound-Targeted microbubble cavitation (UTMC)-mediated delivery of RNAs to target cells. For the current proposal we will use UTMC to deliver antagonists of micrRNA-92a (antimiR-92a) to the heart to mitigate adverse left ventricular remodeling in the setting of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion . Studies will be performed in rats, then ultimately translated to pig ischemia/reperfusion studies.

Main Postdoc Duties

The postdoc associate will be the major driver of the experiments including performance of animal surgery (rodents, large animals), maintenance of animals pre and post operatively, echocardiographic imaging, collection of data, synthesis of RNA-loaded microbubbles, drug delivery, maintenance of lab notebooks, post mortem processing of tissue for histologic and molecular analyses, data analysis and preparation of manuscripts,

Minimum requirements – PhD in biological sciences or related field with experience in animal surgery and cardiovascular research

Salary – Per University of Pittsburgh Postdoc Salary Guidelines
