Job Title: Senior Data Scientist

Workplace: Hybrid (preference for candidates located in the National Capital Region - DMV)

Clearance Required: a TS or CBP BI or DHS Suitability clearance adjudicated within the past 4 years

Position Overview:

Conducts quantitative analysis using ops research tools, economics, and other quantitative techniques in the areas of procedural implementations and performance issues. Creates analysis procedures. Assists in the definition of machine learning and data mining strategies. Creates, deploys, maintains, and refines decision management models. Specialist in modeling and simulation functions or operations such as, exercises, plans, coordination, demonstrations, and instruction in the fields such as, environmental, transportation, law enforcement, and security for military and civilian agencies.

Requirements:

  • Nine (9) years of relevant experience in applied research, big data analytics, statistics, applied mathematics, data science, computer science, operations research or other closely related other quantitative or mathematical discipline.

  • Bachelors in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Operations Research or other closely related other quantitative or mathematical discipline. A PhD degree may be substituted for up to three (3) years of relevant experience.

  • Three (3) years specialized experience. Specialized experience must include a combination of office and field experience in performing modeling and conducting
    analysis in a law enforcement environment.

  • Conduct exploratory data analysis via acquiring, cleaning, and exploiting relevant information from across agency databases in order to detect possible corruption and criminal activity

  • Develop queries, including in Structured Query Language (SQL), as needed to access data stored in separate databases

  • Apply data science techniques (e.g. machine learning, artificial intelligence, and statistical modeling)

  • Assist in leveraging and enhancing existing ontologies for government use cases

  • Manipulate large data sets and use them to identify trends and reach meaningful conclusions to inform strategic decisions

  • Measure, improve results, and make adjustments based on feedback, assist with the development of repeatable processes based on proven results

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Expertise using Qlik to embed visualizations into webpages

  • Familiarity with Databricks or similar cloud-based distributed database technologies

  • Familiarity with PySpark and Python

  • Comfortable developing complex SQL queries to extract, transform, and load data

  • Experience with analytic techniques such as Anomaly detection, Clustering, and Time-series (e.g., ARIMA)

  • Experience implementing NLP concepts including preprocessing (stemming, etc.), TF-IDF, Named Entity Recognition, and LLMs.
