File preparation: Reviewing incoming internal and external design files for accuracy, including checking fonts, color profiles, image resolution, bleed areas, and sizing to meet printing specifications. This may also involve setting up various treatment layers such as glitter, emboss, opaque white, etc.
Basic design tasks from provided kits: Using the elements in a design kit to build new deliverables.
Color management: Adjusting colors to ensure consistency across different printing processes and devices, often using color profiles and color correction tools.
Imposition: Arranging pages in the correct order for printing, including setting up bleeds and trim marks.
Proofing: Creating digital proofs for client approval, identifying and correcting any errors before final print production.
Pre-flight checks: Performing thorough quality checks on files to identify potential issues like missing fonts, incorrect image formats, or low-resolution images before sending to print.
File conversion: Converting files to the appropriate format required by the printing press.
Communication with clients and designers: Collaborating with designers to address any concerns regarding file preparation and providing feedback on design elements that might impact printability.
Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving any technical issues that may arise during the prepress process.
Template and dieline creation: The role may, at times, require the ability to create original templates and dielines. A thorough understanding of dielines, bleed, safety, and no print zones is required.
