WHEDA is seeking a Commercial Lending Analyst - Underwriter to join our Commercial Lending Department in our Madison facility.

SALARYHiring Range for this position is from $60,264-$74,054 Annually. Offered Salary will be based on qualifications and internal pay equity.  WHEDA provides a competitive salary and WHEDA employees participate in the State of Wisconsin benefit package which includes retirement, health insurance and deferred compensation programs.  

POSITION OVERVIEW: This is a professional level position responsible for performing work in underwriting and evaluating financial and non-financial information for multifamily lending, Low Income Housing Tax Credit Allocation (LIHTC), and business lending through economic development projects. The Underwriting Analyst is generally proficient in interpretation, analysis, and evaluation of multifamily and economic development product lines and is independently able to evaluate funding requests.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Obtain and analyze extensive and pertinent financial and non-financial data about the borrower and the proposed project for a given product line (Multifamily, LIHTC or Economic Development projects).  Ensure consistent parameters are applied to all applications and identify variances. Work in conjunction with senior staff members to evaluate risks associated with WHEDA’s policies and procedures and prepare recommendations.
  • Perform due diligence on loan applications; identify gaps and work in concert with other staff members to identify solutions to resolve issues. Prepare related documents and maintain related systems. 
  • Assist in developing and delivering written summary and oral presentations including detailed financial analysis and recommendations for approval to appropriate loan committees. Work closely with the management and other staff members to ensure consistency, accuracy of work product and compliance with WHEDA’s policies and procedures.
  • Review and document approval of loan closing due diligence items; assist in loan closings and conversions; perform tax credit related tasks for assigned projects. Underwrite and score LIHTC and other applications.
  • Develop/use/maintain a thorough working knowledge of WHEDA, State and Federal programs and resources to serve customer needs. Work collaboratively within the Commercial Lending team to identify potential opportunities for process improvements, documentation, and communication.
  • Participate in development and implementation of policies and procedures. Participate in the development, testing, and implementation of new products or systems.
  • Assist in preparation of a variety of management reports related to lending activities. Support Management during regulatory exams, external and internal audits, and reviews.
  • Performs or assists in other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, real estate, finance, or related field and one to three years of real estate experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job listed above.
  • Valid Driver's License Required.

  • Ability to conduct cost-benefit analysis and calculating a ROI using available data points to generate associated work reports.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite and other database software
  • Attention to detail, and ability to troubleshoot for process improvement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Successful prioritizing and management of work projects
  • Maintains confidentiality related to internal/ external customers and any other information obtained in this role.

This position has a work schedule that will initially be 100% in-office. After training is complete, it is at the discretion of the direct manager when the employee may begin a hybrid work schedule.
