VAE, Inc. is seeking a highly experienced Security Engineer to support critical U.S. Army and Department of Defense (DoD) modernization initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in information assurance and security engineering, with experience implementing and evaluating secure architectures, performing risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with DoD cybersecurity standards. The Security Engineer will be responsible for conducting security analyses, developing accreditation documentation, and guiding system security throughout it’s lifecycle.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

VAE, Inc. is seeking a highly experienced Security Engineer to support critical U.S. Army and Department of Defense (DoD) modernization initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in information assurance and security engineering, with experience implementing and evaluating secure architectures, performing risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with DoD cybersecurity standards. The Security Engineer will be responsible for conducting security analyses, developing accreditation documentation, and guiding system security throughout it’s lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct security analyses, assessments, and product evaluations to identify risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Perform network and systems security assessments to ensure compliance with DoD and Army information assurance policies.
  • Develop and maintain security architectures, baselines, and system documentation in accordance with RMF, NIST, and DoD 8570 standards.
  • Create and manage certification and accreditation documentation, including system security plans, risk assessments, and test reports.
  • Lead or support security testing, certification, and accreditation activities for information systems.
  • Implement security controls and risk management strategies to protect classified and unclassified environments.
  • Collaborate with system owners, engineers, and program managers to ensure security requirements are integrated into system designs and operations.
  • Support incident response, vulnerability remediation, and compliance audits as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5+ years of direct experience in Information Security or Cybersecurity.
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance (minimum).
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Information assurance principles and practices
    • Security engineering and security architectures
    • Risk Management Framework (RMF) and certification/accreditation processes
    • Security baseline development and system hardening
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Advanced certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CEH, CASP+).
  • Prior experience supporting Army or other DoD cybersecurity programs.
  • Familiarity with cloud security, SIEM tools, and advanced threat detection technologies.
  • Experience conducting security testing and vulnerability assessments on enterprise IT systems.
