A postdoctoral appointment is available with Dr. Sanchez’s Sustainable Design Lab at the University of Pittsburgh in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation. We are seeking a highly motivated and organized person for an opportunity with expertise in the areas of designing Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) and their applications against heavy metals and PFAS in environmental samples.
The successful candidates will become part of a large, multidisciplinary environmental community and will have ample opportunities for collaboration. The postdoctoral positions in the lab are aimed at the development of MOFs for PFAS, PFAS/metals, and PFAS sensing, and molecular modeling of PFAS adsorption in porous materials, as well as applying AI and biological methodologies for the high-throughput detection and quantification of PFAS and metals in diverse environmental samples. The candidate should have extensive lab experience, specifically in developing MOFs for PFAS and metals, using kinetic/thermodynamic models for adsorption studies, preferably with expertise in ICP-OES and LC-MS/MS.
The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of an extension. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The successful applicant will possess a PhD in environmental engineering/sciences, chemical engineering, or related fields, have an excellent academic record, and work well in a collaborative research environment. The candidate should have completed the Ph.D. prior to the date of joining.
