The starting salary for this role is $54,379 annually.

About the role:

The Communications Specialist plays a key support role in advancing PenAir’s brand and ensuring clear, consistent messaging across all channels. This position focuses on creating and maintaining high-quality content for PenAir.org, the Pentranet, press releases, blog posts, and other member- and employee-facing materials. In addition to writing, the role manages day-to-day updates for digital platforms, assists with internal communications, and provides logistical and content support for events and special projects. The Communications Specialist monitors engagement metrics, analyzes performance data, and offers actionable insights to improve communication effectiveness. By collaborating with internal teams and maintaining brand standards, this role helps strengthen PenAir’s reputation, foster employee engagement, and build meaningful connections with members and the community.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine written content across multiple channels, including PenAir.org, internal communications, press releases, blog posts, and other member- and employee-facing materials. Ensure all messaging is clear, consistent, and aligned with PenAir’s brand voice and strategic objectives. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to translate complex information into engaging, accessible content that supports organizational goals and enhances the member experience.
  • Oversee the day-to-day updates and maintenance of PenAir.org and the Pentranet (employee intranet) to ensure accuracy, functionality, and a positive user experience. Manage content publishing, troubleshoot basic issues, and coordinate with IT and Marketing teams for technical support or design enhancements. Maintain brand consistency across digital platforms and ensure timely posting of critical information for both members and employees.
  • Support internal stakeholders by delivering clear, consistent messaging that aligns with PenAir’s brand voice and organizational goals. Assist with interdepartmental projects by drafting and editing content for various channels, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Provide resources and guidance to help teams communicate effectively with employees and members, fostering transparency and engagement across the organization. Manage multiple projects and deadlines with strong time management and attention to detail.
  • Assist with member-facing, community, and employee engagement events that strengthen brand awareness and reinforce PenAir’s purpose. Provide support, including drafting event materials, coordinating internal announcements, and ensuring timely updates across appropriate platforms. Collaborate with internal teams to deliver a consistent brand experience and create meaningful connections with members and employees. Maintain the highest level of professionalism, tact, and confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Monitor and analyze communication performance across multiple channels, including website analytics, PR coverage, and internal engagement metrics. Compile and present regular reports to highlight trends, measure effectiveness, and identify opportunities for improvement. Leverage data-driven insights to refine content strategies, enhance audience engagement, and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned, including taking calls outside of normal business hours including weekends.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three years to five years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience. 
  • A bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or similar program is preferred.
  • Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) is necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.

Other Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required. 
  • Familiar with marketing design and project management tools (Asana, Monday, Wrike, Adobe, etc.) and website content management platforms (WordPress) preferred.
