SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Editorial Assistant is based in the Kansas City metropolitan area, offering a primarily work-from-home schedule, with periodic onsite presence for training, meetings and other events. The Editorial Assistant supports editorial content development processes for AAFP’s industry leading medical journals and clinical monograph series to ensure timely and efficient movement of manuscripts from submission to acceptance. The Editorial Assistant also compiles and proofs content for publication in print and digital channels. Performing a variety of administrative tasks is also a significant aspect of this role, which requires independent work as well as collaboration with other members of the American Family Physician (www.aafp.org/afp), FPM (www.aafp.org/fpm), and FP Essentials (www.aafp.org/fpe) medical and professional editing teams.
SPECIFIC ASPECTS INCLUDE:
REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in journalism, English, or related area plus moderate work experience of one year. Exceptional command of English grammar and usage and excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines. Knowledge of editorial standards, publishing processes, and knowledge of medical terminology helpful. The ability to work at a computer and proofread detailed and lengthy copy required.
