What You Will Do

The person is responsible for all aspects of lab work sent to external laboratories for completion from all SDM dental clinics and its faculty practice. This person is responsible for the inventory, ordering, receiving, maintaining accounts, invoicing process and prompt payments for the lab cases and some lab materials needed in the Alton clinics. This person also insures that the student and professional labs are well stocked, clean, and well maintained at all times. This person assists faculty, residents, and students at multiple SDM locations. The position includes classic dental assisting, surgical dental assisting, radiology, record keeping, front dental office functions (telephone, coordinating transactions), sterilization, arranging and dispensing instruments, and dental lab casework coordination. The employee will be asked to complete additional duties as needed, such as; Supply Area; assisting with dispensing items and equipment, accepting and distributing deliveries, and to cover other areas in the clinic when needed. The daily work required will depend upon the location assigned.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience in dental assisting comparable to that performed at the Dental Assistant II level of this series, including experience in four-handed dentistry.

Current Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Certification
Experience in working with axiUm (Clinical Management System)
This person must have experience in all phases of general dentistry and be able to assist students/residents in the performance of them. This person needs to possess the ability to organize and perform multiple tasks independently, understand and manage the entire process of dental lab casework for all SDM clinics (including its faculty practice). These skills will include; case assignment, turn-around times, delivery methods, and monitoring monetary limits of each laboratory contract. This person must demonstrate the ability to work with faculty, residents, fellows, students, co-workers/staff, and patients of the SDM and be capable of effectively handling patients under stress. This person must have excellent computer skills in order to work with the clinical management system, complete transactions, complete transactions, enter information into the electronic health record, order and maintain lab and supply inventories, communicate and use spreadsheets. This person must be efficient and aseptic when exposing and developing radiographs according to all SDM protocols. This person must be flexible and adaptable to multiple work environments and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills in order to positively resolve conflicts with laboratories. A high degree of manual dexterity (both fine and gross manipulation) is required for this role.
