Essential Job Functions:
The Security Trainer will conduct all District Court of Maryland Special Police Officer (SPO) bailiff training. The Security Trainer will conduct initial 80-hour SPO training and annual in-service training as part of the required 12-hour SPO course and maintain all necessary records. The Security Trainer will conduct initial and annual firearms/OC spray certifications and maintain all the required records. The Security Trainer will maintain adequate range and OC Spray supplies and provide requisitions for replacements as necessary. The incumbent will conduct Active Shooter training, and any other training directed by the Security Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare, schedule, and conduct all initial 80-hour SPO training for new bailiffs and maintain the required records and training certificates for those transactions.
Schedule and conduct all bailiff in-service training, firing range qualifications, handgun safety, OC spray training, and use of force training in a timely manner for all newly hired and currently employed bailiffs.
Maintain all records and conduct all inspections of equipment and records for the AED/CPR, firearms, and OC spray training as required by law or District Court policy.
Procure all security-related items described above and maintain sufficient inventory for ready availability. Process all requisitions and invoices and maintain the necessary records of those transactions.
Conduct Texas State University ALERRT Active Shooter Training at District Courthouses throughout the State.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma/GED and MUST be a graduate of a Police Training Academy.
Experience: Two (2) years of previous law enforcement experience required.
Physical Demands:
Work requires frequent physical effort such as standing for long periods of time during training exercises or presentations. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. A physical examination is required.
Licenses and Certifications:
Required to obtain a Special Police Commission and Maryland Handgun Permit.
May be required to obtain MIEMSS Automated External Defibrillator/CPR instructor certification.
May be required to obtain an Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray/chemical weapons instructor certification.
May be required to obtain a TASER weapon instructor certification.
Required to obtain a Maryland State Firearms Instructor certification.
Required to obtain MPCTC Classroom Instructor certification.
Travel:
Frequent travel to training sites, courthouses, and off-site locations in fleet vehicles.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The Security Trainer must have experience conducting live fire range qualification and the necessary training and experience to qualify as a Maryland State Police Licensing Division Certified Range Instructor.
The Security Trainer must be certified, or capable of being certified as an oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray agent trainer and be capable of delivering instruction to District Court bailiffs in its use, consistent with the court's policy on Use of Force, and manufacturers' guidelines.
The Security Trainer must be certified, or capable of being certified by Texas State University, to conduct ALERRT Active Shooter Training.
The Security Trainer must be able to obtain the following certifications: MPCTC/MSP Special Police Officer training certification and MSP firearms instructor certification.
The Security Trainer must have a valid driver?s license.
