Position Summary:

Audubon’s Salton Sea and Desert Program is seeking a full-time, temporary Outreach Assistant to support the successful delivery of grant-funded community education and engagement activities. Working closely with the Senior Education Coordinator and broader Salton Sea and Desert program team, this role will assist with the logistical and operational aspects of implementing events, coordinating guest speakers, managing supplies, and ensuring smooth day-to-day execution of outreach programming. This is a six-month position (October 2025 – March 2026) based out of Audubon’s Palm Desert, CA office, with occasional travel to sites around the Salton Sea.


This position is ideal for someone highly organized, detail-oriented, and enjoys helping programs run smoothly from start to finish. It’s a great fit for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and feels comfortable engaging with a diverse range of partners and participants.


This is an on-site position at the Audubon’s Palm Desert, CA location.

Compensation:


$21.00 - $23.00 / hour


Essential Functions
  • Provide day-to-day logistical support for community education programming, including organizing supplies, ordering food, preparing materials, and assisting with transportation arrangements.

  • Assist with program recruitment for educational cohorts, events, and volunteers, and support tracking and reporting of metrics of programming.

  • Support Senior Education Coordinator with outreach and communication with guest speakers and facilitators for the Salton Sea Leadership Program and other events, including scheduling, confirmations, and day-of logistics.

  • Attend and help facilitate all or most Salton Sea Leadership Program sessions, assisting with setup, participant engagement, and co-leading activities as needed.

  • Monitor and track timelines and deliverables to help the team stay organized across multiple events and deadlines.

  • Manage internal documentation needs, such as maintaining sign-in sheets, surveys, or photo waivers.

  • Support community engagement efforts related to the Chuckwalla National Monument campaign, including outreach coordination and event support.

  • Participate in educational field trips and public events, providing on-the-ground support and interaction with participants.

  • Draft outreach communications such as reminder emails, basic social media posts, or event flyers.

  • Develop a volunteer database and newsletter

  • Input and organize data for reporting needs tied to grant requirements.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Maintains and fosters a culture of safety.


  • Qualifications and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; some college experience in environmental studies, education, public health, or communications preferred.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with an ability to manage multiple moving parts.

  • Comfort reaching out to new contacts, following up with partners, and communicating clearly in writing and over the phone.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Detail-oriented with a proactive mindset.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort using digital tools like Google Drive, Zoom, and Canva (or willingness to learn).

  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required for occasional off-site events.

  • Must be able to transport items of up to 30lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Perform physical tasks related to event setup and general facility coordination, with or without accommodation.

  • Spanish/English bilingual preferred but not required.

  • Willingness to work occasional weekends or evenings to support program activities and events.
