The University Police Officer 1 works under the general supervision of a University Police Officer 2. The successful incumbent must be able to work alone and exercise independent judgment in performing duties.

Candidates must have permanent appointment in an University Police Officer 1 classified position (or be eligible for transfer) or be reachable for appointment on the current NY State Civil Service eligible list for University Police Officer 1. NY State Preferred List candidates have preference.

**Candidates must meet established physical and medical requirements for appointment to the position, must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted New York State motor vehicle operator's license and must be legally eligible to carry a firearm and complete all requirements for certification as a police officer in New York State.
Permanent employees in the competitive class may be eligible to transfer to a different title, agency or geographic location under section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law which states: "Section 70.1 allows transfer without further examination from one title to another when a sufficient degree of similarity exists between the minimum qualifications, tests and/or duties of the specific titles involved. The appropriateness of transfer is decided on a title-by-title basis at the request of personnel offices of state agencies. This section of the law also allows employees to transfer to another agency in the same title."

Additional Notes: FLSA non-exempt position, that is, eligible for overtime monies. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
