Position Summary:
The Director of Machining is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of the machining department at our Seneca Falls, NY manufacturing facility. This position leads a multi-disciplinary team—including Supervision, Maintenance, and Scheduling,—to ensure performance in safety, quality, delivery, and cost. The Director will drive continuous improvement while supporting growth, innovation, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & People Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop direct reports across Supervision, Maintenance, & Scheduling.
- Set performance goals, provide regular feedback, and foster a high-performance culture.
- Ensure alignment with company values and plant objectives.
Machining Operations
- Oversee daily operations for CNC and manual machining processes, managing workflow, staffing, and machine utilization.
- Maintain high safety standards and regulatory compliance across all areas of responsibility.
- Monitor KPIs such as OEE, first-pass yield, schedule adherence, and scrap rates.
Strategic & Technical Leadership
- Develop and implement machining strategies that support customer demand, operational efficiency, and quality targets.
- Lead efforts to evaluate and adopt new technologies, equipment, and automation.
- Provide direction on tooling, process optimization, and best-in-class CNC programming practice.
Maintenance & Reliability
- Oversee the preventive and predictive maintenance program for machining equipment.
- Work collaboratively with maintenance leadership to ensure maximum uptime and efficient resource utilization.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with Planning, Quality, Supply Chain, and Assembly to ensure seamless end-to-end production flow.
- Support New Product Development (NPD) and Engineering Change Procedures with robust process readiness and launch support.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for machining-related quality or delivery issues.
QualificationsQualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (required); Master’s degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in machining or manufacturing, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong understanding of CNC machining, CAM programming, maintenance systems, and production scheduling.
- Proven leadership in a high-mix, low-volume industrial manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., PRMS) and production metrics.
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification strongly preferred.
Preferred Experience:
- Manufacturing experience in pumps, rotating equipment, or heavy industrial products.
- Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on involvement in automation, lights-out machining, or Industry 4.0 initiatives.
