Academic Coach



The Study Lab is seeking candidates for the position of Academic Coach. Academic Coaches implement, manage and evaluate programming for Study Lab and the McCarl Center for Nontraditional Student Success, including academic coaching and tutoring. Working with individual students, with a particular focus on transfer and adult/nontraditional students, the Academic Coach identifies relevant, research-based strategies and skills to support students in reaching their academic goals, referring students to appropriate campus resources when necessary. This may include teaching a one-credit course to support students’ successful transition to the University and implementing various programs to address the needs of a diverse undergraduate student population. Academic coaches utilize best practice in creating and coordinating programming to support student success. The employee also assists in conducting the academic standing assignment for Dietrich and CGS undergraduates and other administrative duties in support of student success programming. Academic Coaches work closely with the Director of Study Lab and the McCarl Center to identify opportunities for growth and strategies to improve programming.

Successful Academic Coaches must demonstrate adaptability, patience and dedication to supporting student success. Excellent communication skills are essential. An ability to understand and appreciate the perspectives of various communities and backgrounds is a must.


Job Summary

Manages and assists with the day-to-day activities for academic success initiatives. Collects and reports data to monitor and improve initiatives, programs, and outcomes.


Essential Functions

The Academic Coach must be able to use a computer and keyboard, and be able to use video communication technology (Zoom, Teams, etc.). Work is frequently conducted by email, telephone, in-person, or using video communication technology. The ability to communicate in a clear and concise fashion is essential.


Physical Effort

Primarily sedentary but will regularly travel throughout campus to different locations.
