School of Dental Medicine Orthodontics Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery laboratory is seeking a dental assistant.
Performs chairside dental assisting and radiography. Guides patients through visits and treatments, ensures charts are complete and necessary information is collected, and coordinates patient flow. Ensures infection control in operatories and with instruments. Maintains supplies.
Must be able to provide assistance to faculty members, residents, and students in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/ University Dental Health Services (UDHS). While providing support for surgical procedures and patient sedation, the assistant will be responsible for maintaining an aseptic environment, following OSHA and infection control guidelines, and following HIPPA guidelines as well as maintain and dispense inventory and instruments.
Must be able to assess usage volume and of supplies in relation to inventory levels and let the lead dental assistant know of levels. Must restock operatories daily. Preparation of operatory and dental rooms for treatment is required throughout the day and at the end of the day for following morning procedures. Cleaning clinic treatment rooms and operatories after each procedure.
Escorting patients from waiting area to operatory and ensure patient chart is available for treatment is required. Escorting patient back to check out are once treatment is finished.
Must demonstrate knowledge and skill in the support of surgical procedures for sedated patients. Must be organized, responsive to the needs of faculty and residents, and highly attentive to patient needs.
This is not a sedentary job position. This is a very mobile position. There is much movement throughout the day. Depending on the procedure, there may be long periods of sitting or standing. Required to carry biohazard trash to the proper waste disposal area in the school.
