Your New Role and Responsibilities

We have an exciting opportunity for a newly created role as Business Development Technical Solution Designer (Software) for the Leidos Australia MSS Line of Business where you will create solutions to solve our customers unique problems within the Federal Government space.

This role will look to identify, design, and articulate innovative software solutions—ranging from COTS products to bespoke and hybrid systems—for challenges within the Federal Government space. This role also involves evaluating technologies, producing high-level designs and documentation, and supporting business development efforts by crafting compelling technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand Customer Needs: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather requirements and deeply understand business objectives and challenges.

  • Design & Document Solutions: Develop high-level and detailed solution designs, including architecture, standards, and comprehensive documentation such as design specs, diagrams, and technical collateral.

  • Select & Recommend Technologies: Assess and recommend appropriate technologies, platforms, and patterns aligned with MSS capabilities and Federal Government requirements.

  • Support Implementation & Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams—architects, developers, project managers, and vendors—to ensure successful solution delivery aligned with design intent.

  • Ensure Quality, Security & Improvement: Address technical issues, incorporate security best practices into designs, and continuously evaluate and improve delivered solutions.

What You’ll Bring to Make An Impact

  • Broad IT Knowledge: Strong understanding of software, infrastructure, and current technologies.

  • Technical Solutioning: Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and author responses to market tenders.

  • Development Methodologies: Experience with Agile, Waterfall, and other software development approaches.

  • Strong Communication & Analysis: Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

  • Standards & Estimation: Knowledge of industry standards, best practices, and the ability to prepare solution estimates, including identifying risks and dependencies.

Don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes – if you meet most of them, we encourage you to submit your application.  We’re most interested in your strengths, what you want to learn and how far you want to go.

Due to the nature of work we do for our customers, all applicants are required to be Australian Citizens and hold a NV-1 or NV-2 security clearance.
