The opportunity:
- Assist Construction Practice Leader, Senior Professional Engineers and Project Managers to organize, manage, coordinate and complete the construction phases of projects with limited input
- Assist and lead business development opportunities by actively meeting with clients, teaming partners, and development of proposal responses
- Assist with monitoring the safety of construction group personnel assigned to projects, the quality of group’s performance and ensuring activities are performed to the industry standards
- Assist in developing strategies and implementation plans to improve and standardize operations ensuring projects stay within agreed upon budgets and timelines
- Implement, manage and evaluate operational processes and procedures, while maintaining consistency with the rest of the organization
What you will be doing:
Planning
- Assist in formulating the Construction Practice direction and completion of the supporting strategic initiatives
- Participate in the formation of and implementation of the Construction Practice Business Plans
- Actively participate in Leadership Training
- Assist with the management of capital requests and the group’s annual budgets
- Assist Construction Leader, Professional Engineer/Project Manager in project scoping, task hour budgets, schedules, and fee proposals
- Assist with the development of performance measures that support the Construction Practice’s and company’s strategic direction
- Develop professional relationships with potential clients and assist in maintaining SEH’s database for project opportunities
- Meet with clients to develop an understanding of clients’ goals, needs, and concerns and clearly communicate this to the Construction Leader and when appropriate, to other stakeholders such as other Practice Leaders, Business Development staff, Client Service Managers and/or Project Managers
- Identify, develop and assist with sales opportunities through industry research, calls to clients, media, site visits and attending trade shows and conventions
- Obtain a deep knowledge of, and experience with owners, developers, and other decision makers in target markets
Operations:
- Involved in project related field activities having normal to complex and or difficult construction conditions
- Manage projects with a variety of documentation requirements related to Federal, State and Local funding sources
- Coordinate SEH work tasks over multiple projects, in assigned territories
- Ensure on-site representation is completing tasks required for the project, including but not limited to: their RPR role, documentation, material testing, survey coordination, etc.
- Supervise and mentor other construction personnel
- Travel to various project locations to complete staff quality audits and direct report check ins
- Observe applicable current events, business trends and activity of competitors to gain information to make good business decisions and improve group strategy
- Implement operational and safety best practices, controls, systems, etc.
- Provide reporting to the Construction Leader as deemed necessary
- Assist the Construction Leader in recruiting, interviewing, and serving as the hiring manager for the addition of staff to the practice
- Assist the Construction Leader in monitoring and mitigating potential risk management issues in the practice
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related major or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of CO
- Read, analyze and interpret plans, specifications, professional journals, technical procedures, contracts or governmental regulations
- Write reports, business correspondence and document project activities
- Strong ability to influence others to achieve alignment with growth initiatives and resources needed for project execution
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to accurately and professionally present information to all levels of individuals both internal and external
- Assists in the development of strategies for identifying and responding to business development opportunities, which may include internal expansion into new markets or external expansion via partnerships, mergers, acquisitions, or joint ventures.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, simultaneous projects through prioritization and workload scheduling
- Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume etc.
- Proficient in Microsoft software, spreadsheets, and project scheduling software
- Ability to learn various construction administration software applications such as AASHTOWare, One Office, Bluebeam, and PMWeb Construction
- Ensure compliance with SEH’s Quality and Safety standards
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ten (10)+ years of construction industry experience/knowledge of construction techniques, estimating, scheduling and construction administration and observation services
- Able to travel long distances daily, if needed to reach project sites
This position requires an MVR records check verifying that you possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record which meets the requirements of SEH’s Driving Program.
