Description
Leidos is seeking an Aerospace Computational Fluid Dynamics Engineer Intern to join our team next summer. This internship opportunity is for an aerospace engineering student within the Engineering and Integration Department as part of the Missiles &Aviation Division. Members of the Engineering and Integration Department provide solutions to complex, technical problems involving analysis, design, flight testing and/or autonomous solutions of various types of weapons, space systems, hypersonic vehicles, acquisition systems, fixed & rotary wing aircraft, and more.
The engineer in this position will work closely with full-time engineers to complete a technical project utilizing CFD concepts for an aerospace vehicle being designed by Leidos - Dynetics.
Primary Responsibilities.
Responsibilities may include the following:
Creation or modification of geometry using commercial CAD software
Surface and volume mesh generation using Pointwise commercial meshing software
Flowfield simulations using a variety of commercial and government CFD software
Post-processing of flowfield simulations using Tecplot and Paraview visualization software
Collecting, plotting, and analyzing resulting force & moment coefficients
This position requires a fundamental understanding of aerospace engineering concepts, particularly including fluid dynamics or basic aerodynamics.
Candidate must also possess a solid foundation of programming experience in Matlab, C/C++, Python, or other language.
Candidate must possess technical communication skills and an ability to work both independently and in collaborative team environments.
Candidates must be a resident of North Alabama area or willing to temporarily relocate to work on-site at the Huntsville, AL office.
Candidate must be a student (Jr. level or higher) pursuing a Bachelor’s (or graduate) Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field from an ABET accredited school with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Candidate must be a US citizen and have the ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.
Pursuing a graduate degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
Prior work with numerical analysis or computational tools
Experience with
Linux operating systems and high-performance computing
Configuration management software, such as Git or Mercurial
Basics of compressible flow
Commercial CAD and/or meshing for CFD or finite-element analysis (FEA)
CFD simulations using commercial or government software
Design, Build, Fly participant
RC or model rocket hobbyist
