Position Title:Youth Coordinator - Port
Location: Henderson, KY
Description:
Serve as Youth Coordinator for the Youth Drop-In Center. Utilizes and shares personal experience as a recipient of mental health services to benefit the team and its Participants. Serves as a fully integrated team member to provide expertise about the recovery process, symptom management and the persistence required by Participants. Collaborate with, coach and challenge individuals to view their life situations as an opportunity for growth and change within each individual’s recovery. Works with mental health providers and youth/young adults to move toward self –advocacy in the attainment of their own, culturally specific life goals. Assist in building connections, creating an understanding, redefining help, and helping each other move toward the desired outcome. The Youth Coordinator serves as a resource to youth/young adults served by community partners.
Essential Functions:
Serve as Youth Coordinator for the TAY Drop In Center
Interact with the youth/young adult as a peer by sharing common experiences and modeling resiliency and recovery
Assist in engaging youth/young adults involved with the welfare system, justice system, education system, and youth and family organizations
Assist youth/young adults in understanding components of recovery and resiliency and in applying skills to achieve life goals
Provide individualized direct support to peers according to that person’s plan by supporting the individual’s choice and building confidence, leading to a greater degree of independence
Work cooperatively and effectively with individuals and groups from diverse populations
Support agency staff in efforts to engage youth/young adults in services.
Peer support to any youth/young adult as needed
Provide information to youth/young adults about resources, trainings or skill-building opportunities in the community.
Organize and lead individual and group social and recreational activities to structure Participants’ time, increase social experiences, and provide opportunities to practice social skills.
Attends required meetings as needed
Maintain required training
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Experience working (either in a paid or volunteer position) with individuals with mental illness or similar populations (i.e. homeless, individuals with severe addictions).
Lived experience with a Mental Health Diagnosis and Recovery, and has been in recovery for at least one year.
High School diploma
Peer Specialist Certification strongly preferred or ability/willingness to obtain certification within 6 months of employment, and maintain certification.
