Company Overview

Brown Industrial Construction is a family-oriented heavy civil contractor based in Southeast Louisiana. We deliver high-quality projects in both public infrastructure and private industrial markets. Guided by strong values and a commitment to excellence, we foster growth, innovation, and collaboration, making us a trusted partner in our industry.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Director of Safety to provide executive leadership and strategic direction for safety across the company. This role will serve as a strategic partner to our Business Unit Leaders, helping them build and sustain safe, high-performing work cultures. The Director will set company-wide safety standards, empower leaders to embed processes that work within their operations, and ensure the organization captures meaningful data and analytics that drive continuous improvement.

Safety is a core value in our organization. We support a strong Safety Department with proven programs and an accomplished team. As we undergo organizational and structural changes, we anticipate the next few years dedicated to building, adapting, and growing.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with Business Unit Leaders as a trusted advisor, ensuring safety is fully integrated into operational planning and execution.
  2. Standards & Frameworks: Establish clear company-wide safety standards, expectations, and performance frameworks. Provide consistency across the enterprise while allowing each unit flexibility in how they achieve compliance and excellence.
  3. Process Enablement: Support leaders in embedding practical processes into their operations to meet safety standards. Provide the coaching, tools, and resources they need to deliver results.
  4. Data & Analytics: Define required safety deliverables and reporting expectations. Ensure leaders produce accurate, consistent data, then analyze results and deliver actionable insights to the executive team.
  5. Culture Building: Champion a culture where safety is a shared responsibility and business advantage. Inspire leaders and employees alike to view safety as fundamental to operational success.
  6. Leadership Development: Equip managers and supervisors with training and leadership skills to confidently lead safety within their teams.
  7. Risk & Incident Management: Guide leaders through incident investigations and root-cause analysis, ensuring lessons learned translate into lasting improvements.
  8. Executive Reporting: Present meaningful, forward-looking safety performance metrics and strategic recommendations to the executive team.

Qualifications

  1. Experience: 7–10 years of progressive safety leadership experience in heavy civil or industrial construction. Strong preference for candidates with prior operational leadership experience (e.g., project management, superintendent, or business unit leader).

  1. Skills: Proven ability to set standards, build frameworks, and translate data into actionable insights. Strong communication, coaching, and influence skills to empower leaders at every level.
  2. Leadership: Demonstrated success leading safety at a corporate or enterprise level, with the ability to balance strategy, culture, and operational practicality. Capable of engaging with established construction leaders, possessing the ability to influence and inspire effectively.
  3. Personal Attributes: Collaborative, approachable, and empowering. Passionate about safety as both a business driver and a responsibility to employees.

Work Environment

This role will primarily be office based but will require some presence in field settings. Candidates should be prepared to travel to job sites, engage with leaders and crews in varied conditions, and model safety leadership in real-world operations.
