Position: Structural Engineer (Bridge Design)

Reports to: Project Manager – Structural


General Qualities

- Has excellent communication and writing skills.

- Has excellent Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to navigate through company internet-based systems.

- Proactive self-starter capable of setting a positive example for the staff.


Technical Responsibilities:

- Technical lead on structural engineering design projects with municipalities and DOTs in the New England region and NY/NJ area.

- Work on multiple bridge design projects concurrently primarily on CTDOT projects.

- Utilize advanced structural analysis techniques and software tools to perform complex analyses, optimize designs, and ensure structural integrity, efficiency, and safety.

- Ensure compliance with relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations governing bridge design and construction, including Bridge Design Specifications, and local building codes.

- Conduct thorough reviews of design calculations, drawings, and specifications prepared by the team to verify accuracy, consistency, and adherence to best practices and project requirements.

- Collaborate with construction teams and contractors during the construction phase to address design-related issues, provide clarifications, and ensure that the construction meets design intent and performance expectations.

- Perform bridge inspections on periodic basis.

- Identify potential risks and challenges associated with design projects, develop mitigation strategies, and proactively address issues to minimize project delays and cost overruns.

- Technical resource for bridge design projects with municipalities and DOTs in the New England region and NY/NJ area

- Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and advancements in bridge engineering, structural analysis, and design optimization.

Requirements:

Educational /Professional Experience Required:

- A Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited college/university in Civil Engineering with a focus in structural engineering

- 5-10 years' experience in structural design

- Professional Engineer license in Connecticut preferred

- Experience in working on CTDOT projects

- Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., SAP2000, MIDAS Civil, LARSA) and computer-aided design (CAD) tools (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation)

- Knowledgeable with Risa-3D and STAADPro analysis software
